TORONTO — MLS players have approved taking part in a summer tournament in Orlando, agreeing to a “package of economic concessions” for the revamped 2020 season in the process.

The MLS Players Association said in a release Sunday evening that its membership had voted to accept “salary reductions across the entire player pool, reduced team and individual bonuses, and additional concessions to existing and future terms of the CBA.”

“While a difficult vote in incredibly challenging times, it was taken collectively to

OTTAWA — Atletico Ottawa unveiled its home jersey on Thursday, adding a Maple Leaf to the traditional red-and-white colours of its Atletico Madrid parent club.

The jersey, shown in a virtual unveiling, has Atletico’s trademark red-and-white stripes with a subtle blue trim that marks an addition to the Spanish kit. A large Maple Leaf is imprinted on the back.

The Canadian Premier League expansion team will have to wait to show it off, given the global pandemic.

“It looks incredible,” said Canadian international Ben Fisk, who will wear No. 10 for Ottawa.

About seven months ago, Alphonso Davies earned his first start of the Bundesliga season for Bayern Munich at left-back against Union Berlin.

That was on Oct. 26, 2019.

Fast forward to May 25, 2020, and Davies has started every match under coach Hansi Flick – the only Bayern player to do so.

That’s sparked conversations about where Davies should play for the Canadian national team: At full-back or further up the pitch as a winger or striker.

“We started that process [of Davies playing left-back],” Canada coach John Herdman said on A Kick In The Grass. “We played against

MADRID — The president of the Spanish soccer league said Sunday the competition could restart as early as June 11 with the Seville derby between Sevilla and Real Betis.

Javier Tebas made the announcement a day after Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that the league would be allowed to resume from June 8 as long as the country continued to keep the coronavirus outbreak in check.
