I went to a Formula One recently, and in order to do it, I had to call in sick. I told my boss that I could barely move and that I was having all kinds of chills and a fever. He thought I had the flu and didn’t want to get sick, so he told me not to come in to work. It was a plan that I thought was pretty good, until it backfired on me. Although I was able to go to the race, I forgot about the camera crew that was there to record it. They filmed me at the race while the cars were passing by, and my boss was watching the race on his computer.
The next day, I went to work and my boss called me into his office. He remarked on how quickly I was able to heal from my illness and I told him that I had some great medicine. He asked me if I liked to watch racing and told me that he was a big fan. I mentioned that I did, and he asked me if I ever had the chance to go to a race. At that moment, I told the truth about going to the race. My boss had a screen shot of me in the crowd from the stream that he watched on his computer. Surprisingly, he didn’t fire me.
My boss told me that he would take away one of my off days for the year for lying about being sick. He also said that he wanted to go to a race with me. He always wanted to go to a race, but could never find the time to do it. I agreed to take him with me to a race if he could cancel work for that day.
