About seven months ago, Alphonso Davies earned his first start of the Bundesliga season for Bayern Munich at left-back against Union Berlin.

That was on Oct. 26, 2019.

Fast forward to May 25, 2020, and Davies has started every match under coach Hansi Flick – the only Bayern player to do so.

That’s sparked conversations about where Davies should play for the Canadian national team: At full-back or further up the pitch as a winger or striker.

“We started that process [of Davies playing left-back],” Canada coach John Herdman said on A Kick In The Grass. “We played against

MADRID — The president of the Spanish soccer league said Sunday the competition could restart as early as June 11 with the Seville derby between Sevilla and Real Betis.

Javier Tebas made the announcement a day after Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that the league would be allowed to resume from June 8 as long as the country continued to keep the coronavirus outbreak in check.

“It will depend on how the training progresses, but hopefully it will be possible to restart with our first match on Thursday, June 11,” Tebas said in his weekly Sunday night interview with

MONTREAL — If the MLS decides to resume its suspended season, Montreal Impact players may have to leave the province to train if they aren’t permitted to practice on the outdoor pitch of the Nutrilait Centre.

It’s one scenario put forth by team president Kevin Gilmore during a recent telephone interview with The Canadian Press.

Gilmore said the Impact are one of six teams whose players aren’t permitted to partake in individual training sessions due to strict public health rules, despite guidelines put forth by the league on May 1 and which came into effect five days later.

BERN, Switzerland — Swiss lawmakers voted Wednesday to open an impeachment process against attorney general Michael Lauber for his conduct during investigations linked to world soccer body FIFA.

The Swiss parliament said its judicial commission voted 13-4 that they suspect Lauber of a “serious violation” of his duties.

Lauber has come under increasing pressure over secret meetings he had with FIFA president Gianni Infantino in 2016 and 2017, and the collapse last month of the first criminal trial in Switzerland in the five-year federal investigation of corruption in soccer.

A parliamentary oversight panel disciplined Lauber in March, finding he had
