The Seattle Seahawks are signing running back Carlos Hyde to a one-year deal, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.

Hyde can reportedly earn up to $4 million on the deal.

Hyde, 29, joins a backfield in Seattle which already includes Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny and Travis Homer. The Seahawks also selected DeeJay Dallas in the fourth round of last month’s draft.

Both Carson and Penny are coming off season-ending injuries, while Homer made up one half of Seattle’s running back duo to finish the 2019 campaign alongside veteran Marshawn Lynch, who is currently a free agent.

NEW YORK — The New York Jets and quarterback Joe Flacco have agreed to terms on a one-year deal, the 2013 Super Bowl MVP’s agency announced on Twitter.

The move to bring in Flacco gives third-year starter Sam Darnold a veteran backup, but one who is also coming off a herniated disk that cut short his only season in Denver and required surgery to repair.

JL Sports, headed by agent Joe Linta, announced the agreement Friday. Financial terms were not immediately disclosed, but ESPN reported the deal is worth $1.5 million and could reach $4.5 million with incentives.

LOS ANGELES — Aaron Donald is not thrilled about the prospect of playing football without fans.

The Los Angeles Rams’ superstar defensive lineman doesn’t like the idea of playing an NFL season in front of empty seats, saying it “wouldn’t be fun to me.”

“I feel like you need fans to play the game,” Donald added Thursday on a video conference call from his off-season home in Pittsburgh. “I don’t see how you could play a game without the fans. I feel like that takes out the excitement and the fun out of the game.”

FRISCO, Texas — Aldon Smith will be able to take part in team activities with the Dallas Cowboys after the NFL on Wednesday conditionally reinstated the pass rusher from an indefinite suspension for off-field issues.

Smith, who hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2015, will be able to participate in the Cowboys’ virtual off-season program starting next week. He can also meet with teammates and coaches.

The Cowboys, who lost sacks leader Robert Quinn in free agency, signed Smith to a one-year contract last month despite his uncertain playing status. Smith was reinstated after meeting with NFL Commissioner Roger

CLEVELAND — Cleveland Browns centre JC Tretter is cautiously optimistic the NFL season — at least some version of it — will take place in 2020. He’s just not certain when it will start.

The newly elected president of the NFL Players Association, Tretter said Tuesday that the COVID-19 virus outbreak has hatched so many unknowns and created such a fluid situation it’s impossible to predict when football will be back — or what it will look like.

“This is a contact disease, and we play a contact sport,” Tretter said during a Zoom video conference.

The NFL is amending the Rooney Rule to require more interviews of minority candidates for head coaching and co-ordinator positions, two people familiar with the decision tell The Associated Press.

Reacting to a lack of diversity progress in hirings for those jobs, the league will require teams to interview at least two minority candidates from outside the organization for head coach openings. At least one minority candidate must be interviewed for a co-ordinator’s spot, the people said Monday on condition of anonymity because the NFL has not announced the additions.

The rule, named after the late Dan Rooney, who owned
