NEW YORK — Joe Flacco has hoisted the Lombardi Trophy and been the Super Bowl MVP.

He has been the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL and one of the faces of a franchise.

Now with the New York Jets, Flacco is merely a 35-year-old backup coming off an injury and tasked with helping Sam Darnold achieve the kind of success he has enjoyed in his pro career.

“I’m fully embracing it,” Flacco said Thursday on a video call. “I mean, it’s where I am right now, and I’m glad to be on a team playing football in some capacity.”

Remember back to the NFC championship game in the 2018 season. Deep in the fourth quarter at the Superdome.

And the missed call — one of the worst officiating gaffes in pro football memory.

Not only did it likely prevent the New Orleans Saints from winning the conference title, and perhaps beating New England in the Super Bowl, but the embarrassment of the lack of yellow flags on the play sent the NFL into crisis mode.

What the league came up with was a one-year trial in which pass interference calls could be reviewed in the video replay system; it

LOS ANGELES — Jalen Ramsey says he will definitely report to training camp with the Los Angeles Rams for the final year of his rookie contract.

And while he didn’t confirm how he’ll get there, Ramsey probably won’t feel the need to show up in an armoured bank truck this time.

The Rams have said they realize Ramsey deserves to be one of the NFL’s highest-paid cornerbacks ever since they acquired him from Jacksonville last season.

In turn, Ramsey has done everything possible to be worthy of a megadeal, receiving his third Pro Bowl nod last fall before earning his

The Seattle Seahawks are signing running back Carlos Hyde to a one-year deal, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.

Hyde can reportedly earn up to $4 million on the deal.

Hyde, 29, joins a backfield in Seattle which already includes Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny and Travis Homer. The Seahawks also selected DeeJay Dallas in the fourth round of last month’s draft.

Both Carson and Penny are coming off season-ending injuries, while Homer made up one half of Seattle’s running back duo to finish the 2019 campaign alongside veteran Marshawn Lynch, who is currently a free agent.

NEW YORK — The New York Jets and quarterback Joe Flacco have agreed to terms on a one-year deal, the 2013 Super Bowl MVP’s agency announced on Twitter.

The move to bring in Flacco gives third-year starter Sam Darnold a veteran backup, but one who is also coming off a herniated disk that cut short his only season in Denver and required surgery to repair.

JL Sports, headed by agent Joe Linta, announced the agreement Friday. Financial terms were not immediately disclosed, but ESPN reported the deal is worth $1.5 million and could reach $4.5 million with incentives.

The 35-year-old

LOS ANGELES — Aaron Donald is not thrilled about the prospect of playing football without fans.

The Los Angeles Rams’ superstar defensive lineman doesn’t like the idea of playing an NFL season in front of empty seats, saying it “wouldn’t be fun to me.”

“I feel like you need fans to play the game,” Donald added Thursday on a video conference call from his off-season home in Pittsburgh. “I don’t see how you could play a game without the fans. I feel like that takes out the excitement and the fun out of the game.”

Donald realizes his opinion won’t
