CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Panthers aren’t happy about the hit Teddy Bridgewater took from Atlanta defensive end Charles Harris.

Carolina running back Mike Davis described Harris’ hit on the quarterback in the third quarter of Thursday night’s 25-17 loss to the Falcons as a “cheap shot.”

As Bridgewater was trying to scramble up the middle and avoid a sack late in the third quarter, he was kicked in the midsection by linebacker Dante Fowler and then took a shot to the back of his neck from Harris after landing on the ground.

Officials flagged both players and ejected Harris.

LOS ANGELES — Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. got permission from California’s athletic commission to return to the boxing ring next month because their fight would be strictly an exhibition of their once-unparalleled skills.

These 50-something former champions still say they’re taking this showdown far more seriously than any exhibition.

“Not a real fight? We got Mike Tyson versus Roy Jones,” Tyson said Thursday in an online press conference. “I’m coming to fight, and I hope he’s coming to fight, and that’s all you need to know.”

Promoters of the pay-per-view spectacle announced that Los Angeles’ Staples Center will

LOS ANGELES — The disappointing LA Galaxy did not want to wait until the end of the season to begin their rebuild. Coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto was fired Thursday with three games remaining in the regular season and the Galaxy in last place in the Western Conference.

General manager Dennis te Kloese said the biggest reason for the immediate change is that there were too many games where the team underperformed. The Galaxy have dropped nine of its 10 while being outscored 26-8. They have been shut out in four games and also dropped four games by three goals or

MINNEAPOLIS — Timberwolves guard Malik Beasley is charged with using a rifle to threaten a family who was house hunting in his neighbourhood in suburban Minneapolis.

Beasley was charged Thursday in Hennepin County District Court with threats of violence and drug possession. His wife, Montana Yao, was charged with a felony drug count.

According to a criminal complaint, a couple on a Parade of Homes tour last month with their 13-year-old child pulled up to the Plymouth home rented by Beasley and Yao, but saw it was roped off. Beasley tapped on the window of the family’s SUV, pointed a

David Hearn, like everyone, has been deeply effected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hearn, from Brantford, Ont., is on the PGA Tour’s players committee and had to review the pro golf circuit’s return-to-play plan in the spring. When he returned to competitive play he admits that he was distracted by the global health crisis and it affected his focus on the course.

“I was struggling, just like everybody, just sort of socially, the emotional effects of everything that was going on,” said Hearn on Thursday from Southampton, Bermuda. “It just wasn’t the best for me.

“Some guys played well through the
